As the optimal implant position may not always have a sufficient jawbone for an implant, a bone augmentation may be required before or together with the implantation procedure. Successful bone augmentation makes the jawbone strong enough to support the dental implant.

A long period of edentulism can lead to atrophic jawbones. Through our procedures, the structures of the bones can be reconstructed and augmented. Depending on the extent of the bone loss, several methods are available. Ideally, the bone reconstruction is done with the patient’s own bone, which is usually taken from the jaw. Your bone can be combined with laboratory-made replacement materials. While bones from the pelvis or skull were used in the past for larger defects, these techniques have been abandoned in favor of more modern methods such as individually 3D-printed titanium meshes or individual computer-aided produced bone blocks (CAD / CAM procedures). Those procedures are well-accepted alternatives. These are much more comfortable for you as a patient and offer at least the same if not even better long-term prognosis. We are specialized in these surgeries and methods and are happy to advise you in detail during the implantology consultation. We perform these interventions as outpatient procedures in our practice under local anesthesia, mild (analgesic) sedation or general anesthesia (narcosis).
